BBDM-73KR3M Air Ultrasonic Transducer for Short-Range Detection

BBDM-73KR3M air ultrasonic distance transducer with a white tapered round body and recessed black circular acoustic face

A 0.3-3 m window for short-range automation

The BBDM-73KR3M is a 73 kHz air ultrasonic distance transducer with a 0.3 to 3 m reference range. It is intended for automation proximity detection, short-range positioning, counting and target detection, and compact level measurement.

The specified -3 dB half-power angle is 11 degrees +/-10%. Range and beamwidth should be considered together when positioning the transducer around machine structures, guides, containers or other nearby surfaces.

Plan for moving and discrete targets

In proximity or counting equipment, verify the smallest target throughout its path rather than only at one fixed point. Size, surface texture and incidence angle affect the echo, while rails, guards and adjacent objects can contribute unwanted reflections within the 11-degree field.

For short-range positioning, the full intended movement should remain between the 0.3 m near limit and 3 m upper reference distance. In compact level measurement, check the container opening and internal fittings against the same acoustic geometry.

Define the electrical and installation interface

The front end should be designed for a minimum impedance of 500 ohm and a capacitance of 700 pF at 1 kHz. Peak excitation must stay below 1,500 Vpp. The specified weight includes a 20 cm cable; any alternative cable or connection arrangement should be confirmed for the selected configuration.

Operating conditions must remain within -40 to +80 degrees C and no more than 3 kgf or 0.3 MPa. The transducer is specified with IP68 protection.
