Short-range sensing with an 8-degree half-power angle
The BBDM-68KR5M is a 68 kHz air ultrasonic distance transducer with a reference range of 0.3 to 5 m. Its -3 dB half-power angle is specified at 8 degrees +/-10%, providing a defined acoustic field for short-range sensing layouts.
Applications include automation proximity detection, short-range positioning, counting and target detection, and compact level measurement. Target size, surface, orientation and movement influence echo performance throughout the measurement interval.

Apply the field to proximity and counting tasks
For automation proximity detection or counting, object size and orientation determine the echo returned as the object passes through the acoustic field. Guards, rails or adjacent machine parts within the acoustic path can produce unwanted echoes. Target movement has the same influence in short-range positioning.
In compact level measurement, the 0.3 m near limit and the 8-degree half-power angle define the relationship between the acoustic field, vessel opening and internal structures. Surface condition and angle can alter the echo returned to the transducer.
Match the interface and environment
The drive and receive circuit needs to accommodate the stated 250 ohm minimum impedance and 2,500 pF capacitance at 1 kHz. Peak drive voltage must remain below 1,000 Vpp. The specified cable length is 5 m.
The operating temperature range is -40 to +80 degrees C, the maximum pressure is 3 kgf or 0.3 MPa, and the protection rating is IP68.
