Product Overview

The BBUAF is an ultrasonic marine growth prevention system for vessels and offshore facilities. It consists of a four-channel control module, ultrasonic transducers, connecting cables, installation adhesive and mounting accessories. The system delivers adaptive 19.5-60 kHz pulsed vibration through the hull or pipe material to help reduce the initial adhesion of algae, shellfish and other marine fouling organisms on submerged surfaces.

Flat bonded and pipe-adapter transducer configurations are available. The system can be applied to fiberglass, aluminum and steel hulls, seawater pipelines, sea chests, seawater filters, structures near propellers, offshore platforms and other underwater facilities. It is designed for continuous preventive operation and should be installed while the protected surface is clean.

Operating Principle

The control module generates pulsed drive signals within the specified frequency range. The transducers convert these signals into mechanical vibration that propagates through the hull or pipe material to the submerged surface. This continuous microscopic vibration is intended to interfere with the early attachment conditions of fouling organisms and help extend the cleaning interval of the protected structure.

The system is intended for preventive anti-fouling. Surfaces with established heavy growth should be cleaned before installation and operation. Coverage depends on substrate material, structural thickness, mounting position, obstacles and the number of installed transducers.

Installation Requirements

  • Remove oil, rust, coatings and existing fouling before installation to expose a clean substrate.
  • Install flat transducers with bonded fixing rings and select pipe adapter brackets according to pipe diameter.
  • Mount the control module in a dry engine-room or equipment-room location.
  • Keep cables at least 20 cm away from other important wiring and protect them with flame-retardant corrugated conduit.
  • Keep transducers at least 30 cm away from large obstacles such as rudder bearings and stringers.
  • Separate the transducers from depth sounders, fish finders and other acoustic equipment to reduce interference risk.
  • Avoid installation on fuel-tank and freshwater-tank outer walls and within 50 cm of these areas.

Maintenance Recommendations

  • Check control-module indicators and cable connections monthly.
  • Inspect transducer fixation, sealing and fuses every six months.
  • Inspect transducer surfaces and mounting locations during annual hull maintenance.
  • Evaluate anti-fouling performance together with hull coating condition, operating area and local fouling pressure.
