Installation Notes

Recommended Mounting Distance

For best performance, mount the sender and receiver 40 mm ± 3 mm apart. The sensor offers a sensing range of 20 to 60 mm, with 45 mm as the optimal operating distance.

Alignment Requirements

  • The maximum incline between sender and receiver should not exceed 2°
  • Coaxiality must be ≤ 0.5 mm

Installation by Material Type

  • Vertical installation to the sheet is recommended for paper and thin films
  • Install at a 27° angle to the moving sheet for thin metal sheets or thicker plastic films
  • For paper types that cause faulty switching during vertical installation, a 45° mounting angle may improve detection performance
  • If corrugated cardboard is measured at an angle to the corrugation direction, even fine corrugated cardboard can be reliably detected

Additional Installation Guidance

  • If the sender is built in, or if sheet guidance is present between the sender and receiver, the borehole diameter must be at least 12 mm
  • A borehole diameter of 18 mm is recommended for optimal installation
  • The cable between sender and receiver must not be connected to an external potential
  • The distance between the sender or receiver and the passing sheets must not exceed 7 mm

Response Time and Control Input

The sensor includes a control input “E” that allows selection of different response times:

  • If the control input is not switched or is connected to M, the response time is 2.5 ms
  • If the control input is connected to L+, the response time is 6.5 ms

Operating Status

The Ultrasonic Double Sheet Sensor operates continuously. When a double sheet or misfeed is detected, the corresponding output is triggered after the selected response time. Once the condition disappears, the output resets after the switch-off delay.

Maintenance

This sensor is maintenance-free under normal operating conditions. To ensure long-term reliability, regular cleaning of the sensing surfaces and routine inspection of screw and plug connections are recommended.
