Product Overview
The angle beam transducer is an ultrasonic NDT probe series for weld inspection and angled beam inspection of industrial components. It uses a wedge-based structure to transmit ultrasonic energy into the test part at a selected angle.
Angle beam probes are used for inspection of inclined flaws, especially weld-related flaws. Confirmed applications include weld inspection, pipes, tanks, pressure vessels, axles, forgings, castings, bridges, structures, railroad wheels, rail, tubes, pumps, valve housings, turbine blades, shafts, and wheel rims.
Key Features
- Angle beam ultrasonic transducer structure for weld and structural inspection.
- Wedge-based design for transmitting shear or longitudinal waves at selected inspection angles.
- Available in large size, small size, and dual element angle beam configurations.
- Integral wedge and replaceable wedge configurations are available depending on model family.
- Common angle options include 35°, 38°, 45°, 60°, 70°, 77°, 80°, and 90° depending on configuration.
- Frequency options include 1 MHz, 2 MHz, 2.25 MHz, 4 MHz, and 5 MHz depending on model family.
- Connector options include Lemo 1, Lemo 00, BNC, Microdot, and MMD depending on configuration.
- High-temperature wedge options are available for testing up to 200°C or 400°F on selected configurations.
Applications
This angle beam transducer is suitable for ultrasonic weld inspection and inspection of components where an angled sound path is required. Large-size configurations are used for general weld inspection, larger objects, thicker sections, pipes, tanks, pressure vessels, axles, forgings, castings, bridges, structures, railroad wheels, and rail.
Small-size configurations are used for weld inspection of smaller objects and thinner sections, including tubes, pipes, pressure vessels, containers, pumps, valve housings, turbine blades, shafts, and wheel rims. Dual element angle beam configurations can be selected where the inspection task requires a transmit/receive angle beam probe structure.
Product Structure
- Wedge-based angle beam design: The transducer uses an integral or replaceable wedge to introduce sound into the test part at a defined angle.
- Large-size configuration: Used for larger objects, thicker sections, and general weld inspection.
- Small-size configuration: Used where access space, object size, or section thickness requires a smaller angle beam probe.
- Dual element option: Selected angle beam configurations use separated transmit and receive elements.
- Wedge options: Replaceable wedges, custom wedge angles, curvatures, quick-change styles, screw-mounted styles, and high-temperature wedge options are available depending on model family.
